Bedtime story apps, compared honestly

We make one of these apps. That's exactly why you should be skeptical of this page — so here's our deal with you: every number is sourced, every check is dated, and we tell you plainly where the other apps beat ours. If we ever get something wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
The short version
If you want illustrated stories, printed hardcover books, or many languages, one of the other apps below will serve you better today — we don't do those things, and we say so in the table. If you want a story starring your child by name, narrated aloud, on iPhone or Android, with no subscription and no account — that's the corner we built. Baby Blake's® Bedtime is free to try with two stories, then packs start at about $2. There is nothing to sign up for, because we never collect anything to sign you up with.

Where Baby Blake's loses, in plain words
No illustrations. Every other app in this table shows pictures; ours is a listening experience — a voice in a dim room, made for the last minutes before lights-out. Some parents prefer story-first over picture-first, because the child does the imagining. But if your little one wants to look at their story, we're not the app for that. (Why we chose that is on how it works.)
No printed keepsake. Inky, Story Spark and LoveToRead will put a hardcover on your shelf. We won't. A print-at-home option is on our someday list; it isn't real yet, so it doesn't get a row in the table.
One language. Oscar offers ten on the web. We're English-only for now — Spanish is genuinely on our roadmap, and when it ships we'll update this page.
Fewer age profiles than Inky. They run six bands from 0–2 all the way to 16+. We run four, and we stop at 10.
We're new. Oscar has thousands of reviews and 100K+ installs on Google Play. We launched on the App Store in July 2026. If review count is how you judge, they win that column today.
Where we're genuinely different
Every app above asks you to create an account — Inky, to its credit, runs a carefully documented parental-consent process before your child's first profile. Our answer to that whole step is that it doesn't exist. No account. No email. Nothing to delete. Your child's name goes into the story and is never stored on our servers. That isn't a settings toggle or a paid "private mode" — it's the architecture. There's nothing to breach, nothing to sell, and nothing for you to remember to clean up later.
Two more that are ours today: we're the only app in this table with native apps on both the App Store and Google Play — Inky's is still listed as coming soon — and we're in Apple's Kids category, which carries its own COPPA-driven review rules about what an app may do.
And on price: our most expensive purchase, ever, is about a $17 pack of ten stories. The cheapest subscription in this table costs more than that every four months.
